Types of BI Dashboards

There are many different types of dashboards, each suited to a particular functional area, and particular role.

A typical group may include:

• Enterprise Performance Dashboards - to provide a general view of the entire organisation
• Divisional Dashboards - management KPI's tied to performance benchmarks
• Operational Activity Dashboards - activity and transactional data providing a monitoring and alerting function
• Custom Dashboards - designed to monitor specific functions and often highly customisable by the users, acting as summary entry pages for applications.
• Third Party Dashboards - for monitoring and reporting third party contract peformance
• Customer Dashboards - customer service portals

You will note the cascading order of these dashboards, which is typical of business dashboard hierarchies. As such, a drill down on a division portlet on an enterprise performance dashboard will access the Divisional dashboard, and so on down the chain.
